Czech U18´s Are Champions, Beat Italy 4:1 in the Final

B o s k o v i c e - The Czech U18´s squad was heading into the final game against Italy with a perfect record and the host nation´s team remained unbeaten after the gold medal game, despite an early lead for Team Italy.

In the group stage, the Italians lost to Czechia 3:0, but this time they managed to get on the scoresheet. And quite early. Despite some pressure from the Czech team, Italy got a powerplay in which Elia Calore shot from the circle and his slapper went past Altrichter to make it 1:0 for Italy.

After the early goal, pressure from the Czechs started the intensify. Chances of Plasek, Kadlic and Kvapil were not yet converted, but late in the first half, Filip Novak skated past three opponents and surprised Zanardi with a sneaky shot.

Shortly after the break, Czech captain Karel Plasek showed off his wheels as well. The Kometa Brno forward got hold of the puck on the red line, got rid of two Italians and then stun Zanardi with a perfect deke. The hosts suddenly had the lead, which got them even more pumped up.

Jan Kvapil pulled the home team even closer to gold when he stole the puck and converted on the following breakaway to make it 3:1 for Czechia. The Italians started playing much more aggresivelly, but that was not enough. Eight minutes before the final buzzer, Vojtech Kadlic deflected Indrak´s shot behind Zanardi´s back.

Team Italy tried to cut the deficit in the end, but not successfully. Dylan Ghiglione had a goal on his stick on the powerplay, but Altrichter made an amazing Hasek-style save to seal the deal. The Czechs are the U18´s European champions!
